Hey there! It’s been a while I know, but, as the cliche says, I’m back and better than ever! So let’s talk trends. This Spring and Summer, I have been paying close attention to what is popular online and on the runways. I don’t know about you, but I find runway looks can be a little intimidating; however, I think there are subtle ways to work them into your daily wardrobe. With that being said, I think each season there are definitely trends that I find…interesting… to put it lightly. This season in particular looks are very unique, but I’m a little unsure of how long they will last. So without further ado, I’d like to show you my favorite trends and the trends I’m intrigued to watch.
Trends I am Loving
Mustard Yellow- This quite possibly could be my favorite trend popping up this year. Runways for multiple designers had more pops of yellow in primary and dark form, rather than the somewhat more common pastel yellow. I think most people shy away from yellow. I know I have for years because I thought it would be too much with my red hair; however, this mustard yellow I have been seeing in stores lately has quickly turned into me having multiple tops in this color.
Colorful Eyeliner- When it comes to makeup trends, my personal favorite has been showing up all over Instagram and more specifically, Coachella. Colorful eyeliner is great way to add something different to your normal routine. I purchased three different colors from NYX: moss, baby blue, and purple. I love using the purple for both top and bottom lines, but my favorite look uses moss and baby blue. I use the moss liner for the top line, and the baby blue liner for the waterline. I then trace under the baby blue with a little more of the moss liner.
Long Blazers- As someone getting ready to enter the professional world, I was pumped to see another way to add some fashion to the business world. Runways and stores have been flooding with long blazers; however, not just normal black blazers, but different colors perfect for Spring and Summer. I found my dream blazer in the Topshop section at Nordstroms. My mom thought something bad happened when I gasped and bolted towards the rack, but it was just me fangirling over a blush colored blazer.
“Palm Beach Glamour”- This is a trend I have engrained in me since I was two when my family moved to the West Palm Beach area. Mary Claire coined the name of this style, which is quite fitting. So, easy to say, I have been living this trend, but I love seeing the rest of the world appreciating it. A common misconception is that Lilly Pulitzer is the only Palm Beach style, but that is far from the truth, even though that brand is still beloved here. Beachy resort wear has been growing in many brands, adding tropical chic to many racks all over the country.
Tassel Earrings- Now this accessory trend I have not had the opportunity to try out personally, but I am hoping that’ll change soon. Tassels in general have been making a comeback. This trend does not have to be an extremely pricey one, and they go very well with the “Palm Beach Glamour” look! Forever 21 has many different options in style, color, and price. Trends I’m Curious to Follow
*Disclaimer: In no way do I dislike these trends, I am just interested to see where they go and how people rock it.
**Double Disclaimer: I am a #Bravoholic , so get ready for some Real Housewives references…I hope Andy Cohen reads this (fingers crossed I’ll become a #Bravolebrity)
Bum Bags- Or better known to nineties babies and older…fanny packs. Designers have been putting these all over runways, many have been saying these are a festival must have, and now they are moving from the runway to the street. They are sold in all price ranges from Gucci and Chanel to Nike, ASOS, and Urban Outfitters.
Latex- This trend has been getting its time in the spotlight not only on the runways, but all over reality TV, specifically Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and New York. I like to think that this trend dates back to the OG red latex queen, Britney Spears circa 2000. According to Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star, Erika Jayne, the key to latex is baby powder to get it on, and lube to get it off. However, I do think it is important to note that when Erika tried to work this trend, she was over a half hour late and almost missed the dinner cruise she planned because her and her glam squad were trying to get it on. I have to say though, she did rock it. While I am not ready to try this trend, I can’t wait to see who does! If you need a throwback or reminder how it looks to wear latex, watch the “Oops!…I Did It Again” music video. Don’t worry I have the link handy! Puff Sleeves- I’ve yet to see this trend in many places off the runway, but yet again trendsetter Erika Jayne does pull this off in her RHOBH interviews with a black ensemble with puffed out shoulders and a gorgeous gold crown-like headband. It reminds me slightly of renaissance time, but of course puts the Erika Jayne twist on it. This trend was huge on the runways during Fashion Week; however, I have yet to see much of this in stores or by other beauty/fashion gurus.
Let me know what trends you are loving or thinking about! Be sure to check back Sunday night for a new post about things I wish I knew when I was starting college!
